Visiting Family in West Germany

It’s been over a week since we visited my family in Germany, so thought I’d let you know how it all panned out.

We arrived in Frankfurt midday, knowing we had to make it to Wiesbaden, we bought tickets and got on the first train from the station, this took a few minutes as I’d forgotten what my cousin had told me about getting the train from the station downstairs. We eventually made it downstairs and waited for the train.

We got to Wiesbaden an hour later, where we got picked up by my cousin’s husband. When we got to their home, my cousin, aunt and my cousins baby, welcomed us. It was great spending time with everyone and catching up.
After an hours journey with my aunt in her car, we arrived in Koblenz where we meet my Uncle. My aunt had kindly said we could stay for 2 nights with her.

The next day we headed to Essen where my other cousin lives, him and his wife had just given birth to a baby girl, so we drove to the hospital to meet and congratulate them. Afterwards my aunt took us to visit Villa Hügel, which was owned by the Krupp family, and is now a museum and country house.

The drive to and from Essen was a long and eventful one, after passing a car fire, and getting lost several times, we must have spent over 5 hours in the car!

When we got back to Koblenz we traveled to Bad Ems, and climbed aboard the Kurlwaldbahn (funicular railway) where my uncle works, it was great seeing out over the town at night.

Our last day was spent exploring Koblenz with my Aunt and Uncle, we visited the churches, the town square, and various other sites. we finished our tour by going to a great fish restaurant before being dropped off at Koblenz train station where they waved us off as our train picked up and headed back to Frankfurt.

We didn’t have much time in Frankfurt, just a few hours to get some food and chill out before we crashed at our hostel, it was a great few days to start off our trip and was nice seeing my family in Germany.
