Our First 6 Months – Most Anticipated Destinations

With under 2 months to go until departure, and practicalities like tickets starting to get sorted out, we have been thinking about why we’re doing this. What is it that we really want to see? Here is a run down of what we are most excited about during our first 6 months.

Greg

Berlin

I’ve never even set foot in Germany before but Berlin is somewhere that has long fascinated me, partly because no-one seems to have a bad word to say about it! It has so much history, a good art scene, trendy bars and those crazy pink pipes! Can’t wait to see it for myself.

Moscow

Russia is somewhere I never imagined myself going before 6 months ago when we decided we wanted to take the Trans Siberian, but now it fascinates me. All I know is that it’s going to be freezing, tough to communicate and full of history. Moscow is our first stop there.

Beijing

Beijing, China

Another country we’ve never been to, and the city at the end of our Trans Mongolian adventure. Beijing looks smoggy and hectic but I can’t help but love those sorts of cities! I’m excited about eating some great food, getting hopelessly lost and confused, and seeing the Great Wall Of China.

Ko Chang

I have great memories of Ko Chang from my trip in 2009. I spent a week at Lonely Beach chilling out and enjoying the laid back party atmosphere. It is also where I was bitten by a dog but I’m sure that won’t happen again! The island may have got more developed now but I’m sure I’ll still enjoy it.

Ha Long Bay

Halong Bay

Look at the photo, how could you not want to go here? I was desperate to visit Halong Bay when we first went to Vietnam but it just wasn’t possible as we were based in the south. So I’m excited about seeing the incredible views for myself and spending a night or two on board a boat taking it in.

Katy

Paris

What better way to start off our adventure, than by visiting the most romantic city on the world. OK, so it might be a little bit of a cliche, but I really wanted to see Paris before racing off towards Asia. I’ve heard how beautiful it is and would love that midnight stroll, just have to try to avoid the overpriced food and drink if we can!

Lake Baikal

Lake Baikal

I’ve read that this place is beautiful both in summer and winter when we are visiting, from snow capped mountains to the frozen transparent ice covered lake. We’re going to have to wrap up very warm for this one..

Saigon

This is where I’ll see my family, my mum and her partner will also be visiting at the same time which will be great, as I will probably miss everyone by this point (only 2 months in, and I’ll be missing home!) I’m also looking forward to some great food (although i may be a little biased).

Si Phan Don

IMGP1944

Located in Southern Laos, also known as 4000 islands, this stunning set of islands within a winding section of the Mekong river ideally located with guesthouses and hammocks running down the banks; here I can imagine lazy boat trips down the river watching the sun set.

Chiang Mai

I’m really excited to visit northern Thailand, only ever having seen the bright lights of Bangkok, it will be nice to see a different side of Thailand. I am most looking forward to exploring, and with the possibility of staying here for over a month I’d like to name this place home if only for a while.
